Marco Melandri-125ccm
Marco Melandri started racing in motocross when he was only 6 years only, and became national champion in his category. In 1989, he was second in European Motocross championship. Marco Melandri started minibike racing in 8 years of age, in 1990, and became two times national champion.
125ccm racing career of Marco Melandri started in 1996, when he contested European championship. In 1997, he was fourth in European championship, and also has won Honda trophy 125cc Grand Prix. The same year he made 125ccm world championship debut.
Marco Melandri finished his first full 125ccm world championship season in 1998 on respectable 3rd place. Same year he became Italian national champion in this class.
In 1999, Marco Melandri finished second in 125ccm world championship.
Marco Melandri-250ccm
Marco Melandri moved to 250ccm world championship in 2000, riding Aprilia. He finished his first season in this class as 5th.
In 2001, Melandri was third in world 250ccm championship.

Marco Melandri made his debut in MotoGP category in 2003 with Yamaha, after wining 250ccm championship. In his debut season, Melandri has no luck, and breaks leg in practice for first race, which puts him away from track for two races. In other races, Melandri shows great potential, but also has many crashes and finishes his first season as low as 15th.
In 2004 season, Marco Melandri rides for Fortuna Gauloises Tech 3 Yamaha, and once again shows promising performance, but again with lot of crashing.
